My Simple Green Act

Ya, after attending SPWI 2012, I became thought about Green in my act. Green is not just a big action, It can start from the small action. Some my actions that I think it would contribute to Green are I always use my own lunch box, water bottle, and handkerchief. There are some story why I always bring this stuff everytime I go to Campus.

Firstly, the main reason why I often bring my own lunch box is health issue. I think that the watering systems in the Canteen (especially Kantek – Kantin Teknik) are bad enough. Ya, I ever got Tonsillitis because of unhygienic foods (maybe from the unhygienic washing process caused by unhygienic waters) . So, I take my own blank lunch box and everytime I buy some foods, I take it in (I have the blue edition and brown edition for both lunch box and water bottle). Moreover, there was an issue about Hepatitis epidemic in Depok. So, besides this act is beneficial for your health, It can reduce the uses of Styrofoam if we want to package the foods.

The second are water bottle. Actually I bought my own water bottle just for saving my money for buying a mineral water. In my campus, there is a refill water that is provided for free so I can refill it everytime the water is over consumed. It will save about 4,000 rupiahs a day for buying mineral water, and save 2 bottle of mineral water (250 ml).

I actually not only bring a handkerchief but also tissue (both wet and dry tissues). Ya, that because I’m too persistent (red: telaten) as a boy haha. I use the kerchief to wipe my sweat (because I always wet cause it, hehe Depok is hot enough for me). Otherwise, I use tissue for wipe the others like food, injury, etc. ya, that’s all because I often wipe my sweat so I think it can be save for using kerchief than tissue.

There also other act like using a mechanic pencil so that we can save a forest from the using of their woods for making it. You can imagine by using a wood pencils, it just will use just for some months and you can calculate how many people (from student, officer, etc) that use it and replace it maybe just < 6 months. I have my own mechanic pencil that use for almost 4 years. Ya, I’m not kidding because I bought it when I was still 2^nd grade in Senior High School. That’s a Pentel Mechanic Pencils.

Well, maybe if some of you will follow my little Green Act, it will contribute to Green Earth. Ya, the big things came from the small action hehe or you can be a GreenPeace Supporter too (like me). GreenPeace is an independent global campaigning organization that act to change attitude and behavior, to protect and conserve the environment and to promote peace. GreenPeace is financed by individual donations from like me hehe. I became the GreenPeace Supporter from March 2010. So, It has been 2 years I gave my own money to donate it.

SPWI 2012 By Teknik Industri UI

Seminar Pengembangan Wawasan Industri (SPWI) 2012 or Seminar in Developing Industrial Knowledge is the Annual Seminar organized by Industrial Engineering Student Association UI. Last year, I was the committee for this event. This year is the 13^th SPWI placed in Oasis Amir Hotel, Jakarta with theme “Empowering Indonesian Industry: Green Manufacturing for Industrial Improvement.” The speakers of SPWI 2012 are from Industrial Ministry of Indonesia, BSN Indonesia, Unilever, Ciba Vision, and Krakatau Steel.

Green Manufacturing is about how to reduce waste and reduce energy in Manufacturing Area. But, I think the “Green” is not just about manufacturing. This should be implemented in all aspect of your life, especially from life style.
